Medicinal chemistry is a discipline at the intersection of chemistry and various biological and pharmacological research areas, where system biology and cheminformatics are highly involved. Medicinal Chemistry deals with the discovery, design, development and both pharmacological and analytical characterization of drug substances.
The Department of Medicinal Chemistry is located in the Zanjan University of Medical Sciences.Our faculty teach in both Pharm.D. and M.S. Pharmacy program. The department has excellent facilities dedicated to major areas of medicinal chemistry research, and our faculty have been successful in attracting extramural research grants. The department researches have focus on Drug discovery and development, structure-based drug design and invested in major therapeutic areas, including cancer, anti-platelet aggregation, anti-microbial , drug analysis, and molecular docking studies. Our research platform provides exciting opportunities to both our current and future graduate students.
Our mission is to create new knowledge for the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical drugs. It involves the identification, synthesis, and development of new chemical entities which are suitable for therapeutic use, and investigates their interaction at the molecular, cellular, and whole-animal level. It also includes the study of existing drugs, their biological properties, their quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) and quantification of drugs in biological matrices by different instrumental analyses.
The department of Medicinal Chemistry is a part of a cooperative effort through our school to attain its vision by fully preparing students for diverse aspects of Medicinal Chemistry. We predict our students becoming skilled and well-informed in all topics covered by the department, including medicinal, analytical, and organic chemistry, as well as instrumental analysis and quality control, in addition to those subjects important for medicinal chemistry, drug design, and their development.Our department is continuing research on synthetic chemistry, and molecular modeling applying the latest strategies and concepts from broad disciplines of science.
